You can take private kiteboarding lessons at Kite Point in Malpeque with CCS Kite Club. It’s one of the most beginner-friendly locations on the island, with shallow water and onshore winds. July and August can see the water warm up to 20 C degrees.
Yes. Kite Point is widely considered one of the best beginner kiteboarding locations in PEI. The shallow sandbars allow you to stand while learning (with deeper water at high tide for foiling), making it safer and less intimidating.
No experience needed. Beginner lessons are designed for first-time riders and start with the fundamentals of kite control and safety.
Being able to swim is always an advantage for any water sport. However, we do most of our lessons in shallow water (knee/waist level) therefore your ability to swim is not a major issue. Furthermore, a life/impact vest will be provided to every student during their lessons.
You don’t need to be highly athletic. As long as you’re comfortable in the water and able to follow instructions, most people can learn at their own pace. Kiteboarding is all about using core and body weight with the aid of your harness. Controlling the kite movement is all about finesse and requires much less strength. People of all ages, abilities and fitness can learn to kiteboard.
Kiteboarding has a learning curve, but with proper instruction most people pick up the basics quickly. Everyone learns at a different pace.
Most people need multiple lessons to become independent riders. A 3 to 5 lesson progression is typical. On average, most students require between 6-12 hours of lessons before they are comfortably up and riding on the board. However, in some rare cases, people get up after their first water lesson.
Depending on which lesson/package you choose, the lessons range in duration from 2 to 4 hours. Check our website for more details on the lessons offered.
We’ll send details after your booking, but typically you should bring a towel, water, snacks, sunscreen, and weather-appropriate clothing. Long sleeve SPF Rash guard and water shoes (booties) are recommended.
Your first lesson usually covers wind theory, safety systems, equipment setup, and basic kite control. We start our lessons on land, learning about the wind and the kite maneuvering. We progress into safety and proper setup and make our way into the water. Some students may also begin body dragging depending on conditions.
Yes, group lessons are available upon request and are a great option for friends, couples, or small groups. Check our website for more details or reach out to us with any questions. We’ll do our best to accommodate your group lesson request.
If conditions aren’t suitable for land or water lessons, we will reschedule your lesson.
Moderate, steady wind is best for beginners. Typically, we need to be above 12 knots to have fun in the water. We can do our land lesson in less windy conditions. We choose lesson times based on conditions that match your skill level.
The Kiteboarding season runs from May through October, with stronger wind conditions in summer and fall. As a kiter progresses, they start enjoying some snow kiting too !!
No, all equipment is provided for your lesson (kite, bar, harness and board).
The owner of CCS Kite Club is a COREs Kites Canada Rep – so we only use current and up to date gear for our lessons, rentals and demo events.
Yes, we offer CORE equipment demos so riders can try high-performance gear before purchasing. A rider assessment would be required prior to being able to demo our equipment.

Although kiteboarding is considered an extreme sport, with today’s technology in kite design and safety systems, kiteboarding can be one of the safest sports with proper professional instruction and training. All our lessons focus on creating safe and independent students/riders. Kiteboarding is one of the fastest growing watersport !!!
Yes, all participants are required to sign a waiver before their lesson.
You probably should not kiteboard if you are pregnant, have serious neck/back injuries, have chronic pain, or have a medical condition that prevents you from doing physical activities. A discussion with your healthcare provider would be recommended prior to signing up for some kiteboarding lessons.
Typically, the minimum weight for a student is approx. 60lbs. We have taught students as young as 7 and as old as 75. Age is just a number when it comes time to have fun and learn something new !!
